What To Believe
On our afternoon walk up rue Arago we saw signs of winter passing.
Puddles from a recent rain are drying up.
Year-end holiday window displays are coming down, one by one.
Afternoon sunlight is falling into crevices darkened since before the solstice.
Winter’s gripping fears of decline and decay, aging and mortality are subsiding in the warmth.
You want to believe
good and fruitful forces are at work.
You don’t have to believe it
for it to be true.
It’s all in how you look at it.
